چکیده
This is the final project paper for HPC Fall 2012 course in New York University. In this paper, we describe an implemention of compressible inviscid fluid solvers on Graphics Processing Units using NVIDIA’s CUDA. Using the method of lines approach with the third order Runge-Kutta time integration scheme, piecewise linear reconstruction, and a Harten-Lax-van Leer Riemann solver, we achieve an overall speedup of aproximately 10 times faster execution on a laptop graphics card as compared to a single core on the host computer.

perturbation of the fluid interface has an exponential growth The Rayleigh–Taylor instability is a gravity driven instability of a contact surface between fluids of different densities. The growth of this instability is sensitive to numerical or physical mass diffusion. h(t) 5 h0e, (1.1) For this reason, high resolution of the contact discontinuity is particularly important. In this paper, we a...

In this paper we study the sedimentation of 6400 circular particles in 2D using the method of distributed Lagrange multipliers for solid-liquid flow. The simulation gives rise to fingering which resembles Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The waves have a welldefined wavelength and growth rate which can be modeled as a conventional RayleighTaylor instability of heavy fluid above light. The heavy flu...

متن کاملSuppression of Rayleigh-Taylor instability using electric fields
This study considers the stability of two stratified immiscible incompressible fluids in a horizontal channel of infinite extent. Of particular interest is the case with the heavier fluid initially lying above the lighter fluid, so that the system is susceptible to the classical Rayleigh-Taylor instability. An electric field acting in the horizontal direction is imposed on the system and it is ...
